zdepth and vray frame buffer help
show user profile  9krausec
Im current rendering a project with the vray element zdepth. I am using the vfb to render, saving as a 32 bit float point openExr with the sRBG activated... sooo, were the hell is my zdepth sequence? I set the directory as to where it should be saved, i can see it in the vfb (switching between rbg, alpha and zdepth (so i know its rendering), but no files.

Cheers and thank you.

it all gets saved as layers in the one exr file. You need the pro exr plugin to see them in Photoshop. Or use some compositing software that supports them.

Or manually save the zdepth pass to another file and copy/paste in photoshop as new alpha.

ps: the sRGD button doesn't affect what you're saving. It only corrects the display in the frame buffer.

Okay! Thats cool that it all gets save in openExr. I am working in AE for post stuff. Considering that photoshop cant see the zdepth layer, im assuming that ae cant eitger in an openExr sequence?

so, I researched and read about the AE plugins that are made by fnord that come with AE...

I tried using them, but my zdepth channel is not displayed.

Here are my settings that I am rendering out at, please take a look and let me know what I am doing wrong.

I left my computer render out for 10 hours and stopped it to test to make sure it was working (thank goodness I did, because 80 hours is far too long to waste).

Many thanks.
