Maxunderground news unavailable

X doesn't work, and cursor is totally gone.

Okay. Something happened to my max 2008 at work. The cursor doesn't show at all. Nothing. No skinny axis icon, no yellow with colored tips. X is useless. I've checked all I know to check in my preferences. Any resolutions or suggestions for this would be great.

In the top tool bar go to view/show transform gizmos, have you tried that? its not the same as the X button.

" always need it right? ..."

Not always no,

Sometimes when working in a particularly vertex-dense mesh, and you only want to use the Z axis (for example) the gizmo can annoyingly hide the vert you want behind one of the other axis handles and clicking the vert will obviously change the active axis from Z to X or whatever. Therefore quickly hitting X will deactivate the gizmo and allow you to get to that vert behind it whilst keeping the last used axis constraint.

There are other ways around this, like rotating the view or using the - key reduce the gizmo size but this way is by far quicker and completely non-destructive
