Windows 8 ?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/13/microsoft-shows-windows-8-on-existing-ultrabooks-acts-like-its/

Anyone like this kind of UI ? i know that they still have the classic looks and feel of windows hidden, and this tablet friendly thing can be disabled, but looks like windows 8 main focus is this "metro" style which i really dont mind it on any phone/tablet and portale devices. But i just fucking hate it when they bring this onto desktop/laptop.

I am NOT an apple's fanboy but at least they know that the consumer still works on desktop/laptop, they're used to it so in OSX Lion they didnt change the UI that much and just add the launch dock so their consumer can use apps at the same time.

This time Microsoft changed the whole Desktop/Start menu into that Metro shit. I'm not gonna be surprised if we'll stumble to death just to work normally in the future even with that Metro UI disabled, Microsoft have a passion of shifting things around.

If that's the only setting for using windows then I'll be very surprised. Microsoft are asses, but they're not stupid enough to alienate the entire corporate customer base - which is what would happen if the only way of navigating your pc changed into that "metro shit".

I could be wrong, but I somehow doubt it.

I expect it'll be like the "sidebar" thing that came up by default on vista. Takes two clicks to disable and then you're never inconvenienced by seeing it again.

i dont think its a good idea, just by looking at it, im a fan of a clean windows desktop. 2 folders and a trash can. ive even set the performance low so it had the old school look

Just installed the developer version on my old laptop.

The tabletty interface (there is a name for it I cant remember) is optional. By default it will use it, but you can quickly switch to the regular desktop.
The tablet interface is useless for anything but touch systems, I recon it could work with one of those Wacom pen & touch tablets.

The Office 2k7/10 Ribbon is part of Explorer now.. not too sure how I feel about that.

lack of start menu is the biggest change that hit me right away. when you click the windows icon in the lower left corner, you are taken to the tablet interface.

I have not had a lot of time to play with it, and I'm not sure I will, since my old Laptop lacks a windows key (IBM had a thing against those) which I sort of suspect is vital in Win8 based on the little tips I got now and then.
Also I cant find any gfx drivers that support win8 (Vista/7 drivers aren't good enough apparently)

It seems Microsoft is really serious about this touch stuff. I have already read about Samsung having a Win 8 tablet/slate on the way, in coop with MS..
It's not gonna do much good for my Gaming rig at home though.

Terribly boring signature.

Those that want to try Windows 8 can get it here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/br229516

If you are MSDN, there are more options for download too. Don't know if any of you are MSDN though.

THIS, exactly what i'm feeling, even though it's an option, they're gonna get it optimized mainly for that tablet interface and let desktop users like us screw up with some stupid stuff.

I think Windows 8 is going to be awesome! :)

> Lightning fast boot-up
> Less RAM consumption
> Better support for multiple monitors
> The Metro interface gives you access to all your softwares
> The regular desktop is still there of course
> An "App Store" to buy or download free softwares for windows.
> Windows itself is itegrated with Facebook and Windows Live Hotmail to inform you about new e-mails and FB updates.
> The kernel of Windows 8 will be used in Windows Phone 8, one step closer in bridging the cap between smart phones and PCs, soon you'll be able to install Photoshop (maybe even Max!) on your Phone! :)

Love it! :)

I couldn't get it to install on VMWare. My ancient PC doesn't support Hardware Virtualization. Boo! I'll have to do a proper install to try it out. Some people have had more luck with the (slow) virtuabox.
