Windows 10 & 3Dsmax

Anyone else find that randomly their 3ds max user settings reset? Toolbars remain however all my custom Modifier Sets & Customise > Preferences go default.

Anyone found a solution to this?

FYI - C:\Program Files\Autodesk > right click > Properties > Security > "Change Permissions" Edit > Add User > Everyone (Full Control) has been enabled to allow saving to this directory, works well for the most part however maybe this contributes to the random default values?

Haven't noticed anything like that, Win 10, Max 2016.

But I also haven't altered any permission settings, aside from that one time I set it to run in administrator mode. DO NOT RUN 3DS MAX IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE.

Why? What hellish things does 3ds do when it has admin power?

lol, yeh running as admin u lose ur mapped drives. I read this permisions thing enables you to run as full admin rights without having to officially run as admin, this works for Corona DR rendering as well as Backburner. Seems to fix everything but randomly resets my max settings, same with our other machines. Also lose all custom paths added, so forestpro has a meltdown every time this happens.

Using win10, max 2016 sp3 as well. Im quite sure its windows related, not quite sure how to fix it yet. Any suggestions would be great :)

This is my guess:
it is most likely because your mapped drives are mapped to your user only and when you run as admin, you are running the application as the admin user which doesnt have those drives mapped.
If you don't map the drives to the admin user then max wont have the drives.
can be done by running the command prompt as adming and mapping the drives there with

net use X: \\Path\to\your\thing /P:Yes
(change X to the drive letter you want to use)

------
also on the settings/toolbar thing, maybe you changed it only when you were on your user and never didi it when you were running as admin since you had the other problem with the drives?

I was speaking with the Corona technical support team who instructed me on not running it was admin and doing this instead.

Your logic makes sense, I never have run anything as admin so I would say your most likely right about the drive mapping. Except when I changed the behaviour in Local Group settings which gave me admin rights - fixed everything, then broke all the built-in Microsoft Software lol (which I need).

Im more-so curious as to why my settings would reset at random? Does it run 3ds as admin when Im not looking and overwrite my settings? lol

are you using an active directory server for the users?
might be a problem with some strict group policy .. maybe

That happened to me on Saturday, but I'm not running Win 10. Annoying as hell.
