Willys MB/CJ2a Jeep
show user profile  Error404
Been a loong time since I've done any modeling, or any CG projects at home, but I've been wanting to model an old jeep for a while now, so it's about time to do it :-)

It'll probably be a slow process, I'll work on it when I can. But it's a simple vehicle, so it should progress fairly quickly when I actually work on it.

My jeep as reference: -

I decided to try a different approach from how I've usually modeled things. I'm walking out to the driveway and taking measurements, holding a few "master" measurements and then referencing measurements from those points. It's actually working out pretty well! Probably wouldn't work for a vehicle that had alot of strange curves, but it's working well for this simple model.

While measuring, I realized that the headlight hole in the grill is NOT a perfect circle, HAH! Who knew.

Anyway, still mocking up the basic shapes right now, here's the progress: -

If you have a garage you should move both the jeep and the computer there :)

The lines, that's how I used to do it, trace my reference photos with paths in photoshop, and export them out as .ai illustrator files. max or Maya can load them up as splines. Instead of using the photographs directly in 3d, I just reference the splines.

I started that, but then decided to give using measurements a try. -

starting to look more like a jeep! :-D I threw in some axles that I had on an old harddrive, they aren't the correct ones, but they at least help visualize things. As well as some rough wheel/tire shapes.

Slow progress, still going :) -
