Why it is possible in AE but not possible in 3D package ?

- realitime accurate shadows
- realitime materials
- realitime reflection|glossiness

etc.

I know there is a lot of faking and such but still...

Amazing realtime 3D functionality in 2D package!
3D functionality that we don't have in our 3D packages!

Why ? And.. most importantly how?

Yeah, it's all very nice, but Max has the ovoid spline, courtesy of the Autodesk development labs.

I started a thread along the same thing ages ago.. Game ngines etc faking reflections, dof, fog, etc etc in realtime compared against traditional raytraced engines which take forever to do it 'accurately' - it'd be nice to integrate some of those options into some of the 3d apps themselves, would be a hell of a lot more flexible..

When you look at some of stuff that modern game engines can do, you wonder why we bother with the render button at all. Some of it is simply amazing, and real-time too.

I'm sure they are using OpenGL for Element3D
those shadows and reflections are not accurate, but a really good estimate. Specially the reflections I'm not 100% sure, but I think Element3D only reflects what you have in the environment map and not the other 3d elements you have.
And with the materials, I'm sure made lots and lots of different baked maps.

Weird.

AE plugin Element 3D was out few years ago.
It gives awesome reatime 3D functionality for users of 2d compositing tool.
While we, 3d package users, still have to hit RENDER to see our scenes. ))

Yes, as i said massive faking there but still it's so awesome and useful to have viewport like that.

In the ideal world I could see our 3D packages using this tech to drive the viewport... Have a link to the actual material to make a "dumbed down" viewport material sort of like we have already, but only better...

I think that would be neat although I don't know what the performance would be like with heavy scenes, but it sure would be cool to see.

14:31 of that video... He generated some AO, but it was diminished where there was direct light hitting. Anyway to do this in Vray? Whenever I generate an AO I just Multiply it over the entire comp, but it makes sense that in areas of more intense light there would be less of the AO effect.

duuuddeess. Is there a way? That's tight.

But no i dunno how to achieve this functionality in Vray.
AK rules! lol. What a fella.

Actually if Autodesk buy element 3D as a new realtime viewport renderer and pay AK to tweak and fine tune it as only he can it would be a massive step forward for the whole 3D industry.

I'm still stuck on that whole adaptive AO thing. It seems so sensible there has to be some sort of way to do it in Vray. Ahh!

I can't believe what Andrew and his team has produced. I'm under the assumption that Video Copilot is a smaller gorilla operation. Very impressed at the stuff coming out of there.

It's good...but ultimately Sketchfab in AE, albeit a slightly enhanced version, all the important elements are faked, which limits what this can and can't be used for.

Wasn't Nitrous supposed to be our realtime solution ?


edit: Why is the solution to *fake* everything ? are they developing a *real* solution and just not telling us ? hmmmm.

people also tend to forget that 3DsMax haves directX shaders for viewport materials..
Its more work, but you can set up your viewport to show just like it does in Element 3D
