Which android phone to get?
show user profile  horizon
Probably gonna be a HTC, had it rounded down to 5 of them (3 being variatons of Desire).
I know the latest is the greatest, but I'm looking for best bang for the buck here, gonna buy it second hand also.

This sums up my choices and the specs I find important: http://www.dice3d.co.cc/htc/htc.pdf

Currently leaning towards Desire HD

Thoughts, suggestions?

Any real alternatives? You can forget iOS right away if that's your suggestion :P

EDIT: Sensation is probably out of the game since even the specified battery life is a misery.

Go to a store and try Windows Phone 7.5. I have a WP7.5 phone and I love it. It works incredibly smooth, fast and the app store is filling up fast. The new Nokia's that are just announced look good and you already have a lot of good Samsung, HTC, etc phones as well. The interface of WP7 is very nice and the design principle behind the UI is pretty solid. Everytime I go back to my iPad I notice how outdated the UI looks on that device.

I'm torn between sticking with my perfectly fine nokia 5530, or going the smartphone route. I don't really -need- a smartphone, its a nice to have, and a very expensive one.

Windows phone 7.5 does look nice, and i could use it to test that mobile app i've been wanting to write. Apparently its also much less heavy on the battery than android phones.

But still, if i would buy a windows phone, i would still be a bit worried about that app store.

@spoon. I can imagine. I personally am not a very heavy app user. Most of the things I use are already in the WP7 OS and I use some apps. The phone has standard Facebook integrated including Facebook Chat. The browser is incredibly fast (uses IE9) and is hardware accelerated (GPU). Apps I use are Whatsapp, Evernote, WP7 news and that's about it. I do have some webpage shortcuts on the start screen and I use the Xbox integration.

Games I have are Angry Birds, Blob Revolution, Implode, Max and the Magic Marker, Tiki Towers and Kinectimals. The last one looks pretty nice and was just curious how it works.

Development for WP7 is awesome. The new tools that are out work very well and fast.

What is it with webgl? Angry birds is available as webgl on browsers, but the apps on the phones are all native apps. So no webgl for angry birds on iOS, Android or WP7.5.

No it's ported to webgl ;-). Native iOS was released first.

Relatively new OS, not much on the app store, out of people I know zero users, I think I'll cross it off for now

get a galaxy nexus or a samsung galaxy s 2 for raw power and crazy briliant screens.

or try windows phone mango, that is the most elegant, minimalistic ui at the moment.

cheers
nemo out

Samsung galaxy S2 is somewhere around HTC Sensation based on specs. But I'm wondering if a second CPU core is worth 40% more on the price. What for?
