Yes and No.

From what I remember,...I went in and customized my UI, and added Krak that way.

so you want to try krakatoa and don't understand what it does ?

here's quick roundup :

- krakatoa is a pointcloud renderer, meaning it renders particles as a point.
- It is NOT a particle generator despite the fact it transforms geometry into points, not particles.
- It's located under choose rendersystem which opens a new tab where you can access the krakatoa utility panel.
- It's not plug & play

Yeah, that's what i mean. I'm looking for the Krakatoa util panel, i saw that on the video tutorial aswell. But i still can't find it.

I checked the "Assign Renderer" rollout, but there's no Krakatoa there. Sorry for this, but i really need some help locating it :-(

If it's not there it isn't installed properly.

Try uninstalling and installing again. Have you got the trial licence installed properly also?

I got a bit further. I copied the file MaxKrakatoa.dlr from the Krakatoa directory to my stdplugins folder. I can now see it in the Assign Renderer. But i don't have a trial license yet. I have to wait till they send me one. So i hope everything works out from here.

Thanks for the help.

The installation first copies all files to the Program Files folder.
Then it prompts you to select the location of the 3dsmax.exe file for the Max version you want to add Krakatoa to. This will locate the correct plugin.ini file and add the path to Krakatoa to it.
You can repeat the above process for multiple Max versions by running the "Add Krakatoa to 3dsmax" helper program as described in the installation guide, or by adding the entry to the plugin.ini manually. See here

You don't need a license to test out Krakatoa - you will get a watermark on the image and won't be able to network render, but all major functions will work as in the commercial version. With the trial license, you will be able to render without watermark and on the network. (With the upcoming 1.5 version, resolutions below 480x360 won't have a watermark in Evaluation mode to allow for YouTube posting by anyone).

Copying the DLR to a scripts folder will NOT work. Krakatoa resolves the location of all its additional components like icons and scripts based on the location of the DLR. You have to provide the correct path to the DLR in the Program Files folder via the plugin.ini to get all components initialized.

Once you have followed the installation steps precisely, a Krakatoa category will appear in your Customize dialog, and the Renderer tab in the Render Dialog will have a button for opening the GUI once you select Krakatoa as the current renderer. It is recommended to use the MacroScripts for assigning and switching back though - read here:

Keep in mind the whole development team is in New Orleans right now, so response times might be a bit long...
