What is used to make this.

The Stitching, the collars. I need a general overview of techniques you think are used to construct such complexity. Thanks, appreciate it.

Zbrush or Mudbox was used on the organic sections. What I'd like to know from a MAX point of view is how the hard surface work was accomplished before the detail pass. Ie, Array, etc. What tools or techniques Could be used to construct this. I want a constructive idea of where to head. That stitching is well done.

they'd take a medium low poly mesh just forming the basic shapes into zb or mb and sculpt on those for the body and larger parts
small details like the stitching and cylinders, pointy bits, hoopy thing, locking bits etc would all be imported as subtools (probably not one at a time because that would get messy fast) made to be in place according to the lowish poly larger elements or an exported higher poly
the nuts/stud things look well planned placing wise but are all similar if not all the same and would be easy to place in either max (or whatever) or zb/mb
looks gears of war 2ish to me although i could very well be wrong- not been keeping up on new releases recently but if it's gears it's zbrush

[edit] found the original image- gears of war- wretch high poly
3ds max, zbrush, photoshop
kevin lanning- sculpting
james hawkins- concept
