| Website Template... Sexy or ugly? |
9krausec |
Alright, let me give you the skinny on my situation home slice. A friend and I have been running a summer operated LLC company our of our basement for a few years now that offers a local computer repair service. We are revamping our site (making an HTML site and a FLASH site). I created a HTML template that I figured I would share with all of you and get some feedback.. This is the template, what do you think of it?

i think it needs to be a bit more generic... your branching out too far.

Hmm... Like the Nav bar and logo are too large? I have no clue what "more generic" entails, unless this is a bit of Maxforums sarcasm... If that's the case then well played good sir, well played...
Thanks for posting thou!
Edit: I heard talk of golden ratio so I figured I would try to incorporate it into the design as well (I know, big copy cat right?).. here is the sketchup that led me to this design.

Wait Sir Bolts... For which aspect of my thread is sarcasm deserving (not that I am mad or upset, just want to know if what I ask was a "stupid question" by maxforums standards)... I just wanted some comments or suggestions on the ratios of the design...
EDIT: Or are you just implying that my site is super generic and like every other site out there and that if I want it to be a decent setup that I need to go for something more unique? I am so lost as to what you meant.

Well some header, nav, content, footer boxes just stacked one on another could be a very good layout, but nobody's gonna applaud if you show them just the boxes...

None of the buttons work. Maybe its FF,....but clicking on NAV does nothing............

Well, if that's where this thread is going, then your logo is a bit too literal

Well ok, I need to put some colors/textures to it and fill in some of the blanks, but I was more worried about the proportions of everything in relation to eachother. Is the header too big? Are the nav buttons too gaudy? Does it feel too cluttered? If the proportions look decent I was going to move to the next step, if they look off then I was going to redesign.
@Jim- well its a .jpeg..... (haha... Just yankin your chain)...
EDIT: I guess it would make more sense if the title displayed "Website Layout"

No offense, but it looks like any other site out there to me.. perhaps with some colors and stuff my opinion would change but with just the layout it seems to be pretty static and generic... header at the top, nav on the left, content in the middle.. It's really hard to judge though without some sort of graphics or color
Not that I'm a web guru or anything but I do some web work now and then.. and try my best to think outside the square boxes. The first one is an old site of mine that needs updating pretty bad. The second is something I'm working on now for a friend, the third is another work in progress that's a pretty cool concept I think anyway...

Alright, thanks for the honest input. I just dont want to put too much effort into a concept design unless it hits the spot.... What about this one?

It looks the same as the first two, i think your getting artists block. Try some completely different designs like, stick the title on the side, chuck the logo in the middle, try a sliding nav bar, just go nuts.
I find when you try 5 - 10 completely different ideas, then your mind starts to see the shapes better and sometimes you start to favour the ones you thought wouldnt even be interesting at all ( at first ). play around with it a bit.
This one kinda makes me feel like im swirling around, my eyes go from top to left, to bottom up again and then in the middle.

I disagree with all of you. Its a computer repair service. It should be simple and clear.

Before designing a car you have to know what envirionment it will drive. Otherwise you can never design it's suspension, wheels, engine etc etc
Sites: same.
What content and what functionalities do you want to have on your website? Introduction text, about us, photo's, contact form, contact page, pricelist, news page.... ????
First put that on paper, scan it in (since you seem to like that...) and post it here. Thanks.
