Weaved Pattern

Hi, I was modeling this basket before modeling exact basket i tried modeling simple weaved pattern like this but sides took me enough time, one other way i tried was that i created the metallic wires(the one in basket) and then created a simple line with few vertices,pulled in and out vertices,created box with lot of segments and then pathdeform. Anyone have time saving method in his mind?

Displacement map might be simpler, or even just a normal map if it's to be seen from some distance.

I have tried normal map actually it would be seen from too near, that's why asked about modeling easy way :)and it would be seen from any side in Unity.

Might need some tweaking:

1) Create a box with an even number of length and with segs and an odd number of height segs
2) Delete the top and bottom faces
3) Detach every other row of faces to element (from top to bottom)
4) Select a corner edge of every odd row and an edge next to the corner one of every even row
5) Use dot ring in Graphite to select every other edge
6) Move the edges along the local z axis as needed
7) Apply a 2x2 FFD modifier, select the four upper vertices and scale as needed
8) Apply a shell modifier
9) Turbo Smooth
