Water reflection question
This is my first time on the forum, i'm an architecture student who is relatively new to Max. I'm working for a pool company doing renderings and have been trying to figure out how to make the water look more realistic. The look I am going for can be seen in the first image. My image is the second one.
I'm using Max 2009. I don't like the black reflection areas. For the water texture I used the following settings:
Glossy Samples: 8
The translucency box remained unchecked.
I have a spherical skybox around my model colored gray, however I dont believe that is causing the black color, because it was black before i added the skybox. Thanks for any input!

what kind of material are you using?
have you tried using the mental ray renderer and trying out the archetectural water material?
He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

I tried doing that first but it came out too dark, I will experiment with it more. I tried to put a light under the water to lighten it up, but I could never get the light to shine up through the water.

I'd say lower the reflection (water with a clear color under it doesn't reflect much) and increase the glossiness (the little it reflects is rather sharp).
A lighter blue for the pool might help. Also the bump/displace pattern seems a bit tight.
