| War of the Worlds Handling Machine - Jeff Wayne Style |

Decided to give the tripod I did a couple of years back a friend and model the Handling Machine.
Here's the original tripod thread:http://www.maxforums.org/threads/war_worlds_tripod_jeff_wayne_style/0001.aspx
You may have seen the render in the what are you working on thread already but Im going to be puttting it in a full scene too. I've found a nice image of Dumfries high street at the time the original story was set (end the 19th century) so I'm going to be recreating the scene and hav the handling machine rifling through one of the building looking for humans to farm.
This wont be a quick project by any means.
Here's the progress so far.
Handling Machine
Dumfries High Street (circa 1890)
Central building

Foreground Fountain

S.maxwell building

Various vehicles to duplicate around the place

Nice work :) I always wondered how you get that concept look as in your first image, its almost blurred to give it a soft look with a black stroke around each part. It gives it a dirt feel also, less clean.
I have been searching for a Photoshop method that works but cant seem to ever find the right balance.

Very nice mate. The only crit I have is that those pincers are an awfully inefficient way of collecting people. But, it certainly looks dramatic which is much more important. I like the carts. Will there be horses?

Nice work so far. Let me guess, this is going to be finished in 2 or 3 days, considering the speed you seem to work on lol.

Yay. Glad to see you back with a max project. Your last one (if I remember properly) was that red-neck old dude with a Blunderbuss and a pig.
Look forward to seeing this finished mate

Good to see you back on it. I notice your fountain is quite vastly different to the one in the ref... should I let that slide for artistic license or demand that you pay more attention?

Thanks for the response guys :D
zeefusion, the metalwork isreally just a standard brushed metal mental ray material with a hand-painted blend mix map of the dirty bits uncovering a dark grey material underneath.
Joey, those pincers are actually a slightly modified version of what the original design calls for but there was no way of making them open and close on the original so I have added that pistyon in the middle for a bit more logic, heres the original sketch...

peet: thats seriously your hometown?! thats freaky!
Liondebt: yep that was my last project, been off of max for yonks :)
the fountain is actually pretty darn acurate to the original I'll have you know :) heres a photo of the fountain

So any updates yet? j/k
Can you describe a little about how you did the fountain? Particularly the underside/ detail below the water.

Someone came up to me at work to show me some "amazing renders" on their monitor of the War of the Worlds walkers fighting redcoats. I didn't have to see it to know it was your renders. Small world! I took great delight in telling him it's Mr. Grotey from my forum.
Oh yeah, and the render looks awesome. I hate you.
