Vray Multi-Sub Object Material
show user profile  donvella
Does anyone know a way to render vray multi-subobject materials as a seperate element? Ive tried just about every 'Render Element' with no success. I usually just detach the objects I want and put on RenderID and WireColor, however I would just like to be able to scene convert models i have and just render them and select the ID's in post.

Im sure im either missing something simple, or vray still havent included this feature. Any ideas on this? ---

the multimatte render element is what your looking for, you can either do it via object id; or material id...

Cheers for quick reply

I tried default settings, and then I ticked 'MatID".

Then i tried these settings

Would you have any idea why that element still comes out black?

btw, im saving the files using the vray frame buffer thats why it has no output directory or 'enable'. However my other elements still work, alpha, wirecolor, renderid, extratex etc. ---

You need to flag the individual sub/object materials with a corresponding ID
Material 1 = ID1
Material 2 = ID2

- that should work. Material ID is not the same as an objectID - they need to be tagged differently.

you won't get those shaders rendered into seperate passes, but you'll get mattes for all the ID's you put on there. At least that's how it used to work in Max, and how it works in Maya.
