vray ies - lighting artifact
show user profile  mike_renouf
Hi all,

I've got some lighting artifacts which are appearing in the irradiance map, and I can't get rid of them without setting the irradiance map to stupidly high settings:

The scene is very simple - texture for the ceiling grid and light fitting, and a vray ies light set a millimetre or two below the ceiling plane.

I think the problem is that the ies light is too close to the geometry. Can you suggest a solution?

This is a very common set up for the renders I produce, so if I need to change the way I set up lights and ceilings I'd happily do so.

Many thanks,
Mike

Have you tried knocking the clr. thres down? I think that's what it's called (it's on the top-right of the irradiance tab).

Thanks Herfst,

With a small increase of max rate quality (change from -3 to -2), and reduction of the color threshold from 0.4 down to 0.1, that cleaned it up without a huge render time increase.

Much appreciated!
