Volumetric clouds and sky?

eh...

Say you wanted a nicely done, sky with volumetric clouds you could fly through and around...

Any easy ways to work that up?..........quickly?

I think Vue 5 xStream can do that inside max.

Lots of semi-translucent camera facing sprites (billboards) with some randomness on size, colour, shape, generated and moved gently using particle emitters.

Someone might like to translate the above into max terminology.

The million-particle sprite method is not ideal for my application,.....

you could try the volumetric gizmos and build a cloudscape using envi effects

I have yet to see clouds in max without a plugin that are convincing for animations. That's why I suggested an external plugin.

I've seen all the methods in the links above, and they either don't look volumetric, or use billboards, which makes no sense when using animation.

Nik - I agree,......The reason the gizmos+vol fog worked is because I just needed that "youre in a cloud moving through layers of puffy white stuff" effect,.....I should have been more clear in the beginning.......
