View Mesh Elevations in Viewport
show user profile  FX
Is there a way to display elevations in Max's viewports ? similar to the "Colour by Elevation" function in the Terrain compound obect ?

I tried making contours by creating shapes from the edges of the track, but the terrain modifier fills in the centre not the track mesh....so close :)

Ideally I could do with a more accurate method, but will settle for anything :)

I solved this using Groundwiz Terrain Map, you can control the elevations with good accuracy.

I did find this method, pretty neat, but no link to the script he's using...

a script that sets vertex colour as a function of height would do it if vertex precision is sufficient.

or a 3d texture (I think - haven't ever messed with them)

or a custom shader (directx) for viewport or metasl (mental ray).

Groundwiz, 1m meter layers, I just need to make about +20 and -20 meters to give good coverage.
