Anyone in vfx using thinking particles?
show user profile  digs
I'm wondering what the deal is with them.. It seems that they're an all in 1 solution for dynamic fx, but are they a better solution than using a combination of rayfire, realflow, and fumefx, for example?

It seems like they're extremely versatile, and powerful

I've been looking into it recently for medical visualizations, for a mathematical nub like me it's hellish complex, but a must have workflow.

When you finally get the desired result it's bloody impressive.

edit: not an all in one afaik, used in conjunction with.

Nah, I've been looking for days, same story everywhere unless your a C4D user, everyone likes to likes to share, maybe it's because of the complexity.

There seems no point in posting when there are so few answers.

I've been working on my effect for close, I just need to iron out a few quirks, but I simply don't have the TP knowledge to nail it down.

mmmmmm yes. People in VFX definitely are using TP !

Check out Allan McKay to name a few. TP is complicated as F*ck though....but amazing.....

Complex? ..damn right, I'm struggling, but strangely enough making progress...trial - error - patience and google :)

..tho' it does feel like 2 steps forward , one back most of the time.

One thing I am tiring of, is searching Google, finding a solution, but only for C4D and xpresso, or a 10 second demonstration of the effect I'm looking for but with no explanation.

All I need are the scene files...I can break it down and modify the variables :/

Nice one, it's the Plexus effect I'm trying to modify/adapt, I didn't realize there was a script for Max, maybe easier...will have a play.

This is the effect I'm diddling with, what I can't figure out is how to have better control where the particles are being generated from, each green box is a particle, I just can't manage to tame it down and get precise placement / generation of the particles.

It's basically the Plexus tutorial with some nodes deleted so the lines between the particles remain constant.
