updating my site (again), HTML Q....
show user profile  STRAT
Hi guys

tons and tons of new work i want on my website, so, i'm re-writing my site again, only this time stripping it down and keeping it simple and hopefully letting my portfolio do the talking.

i'll be making basic menus and sub-menus. all will be VERY VERY simply coded in html again. and, all will be completely free to produce.

One thing i want is a homepage/splash page that, every time you visit my site, the background picture changes. it doesn't cycle through the backgrounds during your visit but only when you refresh or visit from new each time.

how is this achieved in plain simple html?

Any specific reason why you're just going straight up html?

css loads faster, is easier to code, and returns better results in search engines - I did a search on "css image change on refresh" and got a butt load of easy to use lookin code - when I searched that using "html" instead of "css" it was all java based, which can be annoying sometimes 8 /

1) i know enough html to write the kind of sites i like
2) dont know anything of css
3) not interested in learning new coding and spending a lot of time doing things. no patience.
4) im a stubborn fekka

i do use the odd css sequence, but its few and far between.

i'm not looking to produce magic and i know my methods might seem quite old and archaic, and i'm really really not interested in expending much time and effort and costs if i can get away with it, i just humbly want 1 or 2 simple answer to my queries if they exist :)

ha yea I hear that - I wrote all my code in notepad with html until like 6 months ago

switched from coding in notepad to dreamWeaver, and learned about an hrs worth of css and my websites are a million times better, might be worth a lazy night if u ever get one

for anyone wanting to learn it --> css tuts
You can also search "timothy framework" on youtube to get to his channel, dudes a good teacher

Not sure about how you'd go about it with just good ol' html

I wrote all my code in notepad with html

thats me now!

put it this way, as can be seen in my current site, there are odd snippets of css going on. snippets i've stolen and adapted to suit. simple stuff.

are there any css bits i can steal and paste into my coding you know of? i dont even know the name of the sequence im after so i can even search it out :(

for example, google searching css 'page refresh' isnt helping.

yea! : D found one and tested it - works no prob - here

All I did was copy and pasted that code into a new doc, changed the image paths to point to my images, and deleted "background-position:top right" from the css class .bg

with a little positioning I think this might be it?

how would i leave my background image the way it is, and just have a normal image (with my img scr tag) half way down my page change instead?

Girish - i've had a nice bit of spare time in work this last week or so and specifically concentrated on exactly where and what i want from a web site. i've considered Wordpress :)

Ultimately, all i've got is a part time freelancing going concern, which, especially this year, isn't as lucrative as i'd like (saying that, i've not been too bothered about it).

so i want something totally unique to my liking and ideas, totally free, and, which my current site is not, easily appendable and easy to add future images and pages too.

i've decided to get rid of the looping linear style gallery as i currently have, and opt for a few drop down menues and categories with grouped case studies. all joined together in individual html pages.

very simple and straight forward and a different direction than i'm currently at. meaning my stupidly simple HTML knowledge, together with some basic css code copying does me wonders. just need the time and effort to plough through it.

but as mentioned, no doubt there'll be questions ton ask on the way :)

By the way

Another something I've learned is

Google adwords
Seo (slow but definitely good)
Regular blog with good sensible tags (perfect)

Can't get more traffic than using to your website

Can't wait to see the site & kitchen, bathroom renderings :)
