unwrapping a torus object with wood grains
could someone tell me the best and easiest way to unwrap a torus object so it can be painted in photoshop?

Isn't the torus object come with a uv map by default?

If not, then try spline unwrapping.

Wood grain tends to go trough the object in one main plane. Simple planar mapping may be a good start. This will give you the nice circular pattern on the sides.
This way is how I did the handle on my blunderbuss (back in the day when I was quite good at max
