Unwrap UVW-a tyre
show user profile  cdc02254
I have just managed to take some good photos of an F1 wheel/slick tyre. I want to use these for my tyre in max.

I have tried to unwrap my tyre but it splits it up into pieces.

Basically I want to unwrap the tyre into 1 piece. I seem to remember doing this before maybe with pelt mapping.

I acnt seem to find any tutorials for this can anyone give some advice.

Pelt in one piece? just add an unwrap mod, make one pelt seam across the width of the tyre, select the faces you want to include for the tyre and hit pelt.

Or are you looking for general pelt mapping tuts as you haven't done it before? if so click the link...

but I think you'll have better luck with things like writing on the side walls if you do the side walls separately to the tread

I strongly advise against using pelt for a tyre.

As it's pretty much a tube shape... cylindrical mapping should sort you out for the most part, perhaps planar the sides and stitch together in the unwrap window.
