True Image 11 Doesnt restore - vista
show user profile  mrgrotey
Hi guys, Ive posted this on the acronis website too but hopefully you can help me aswell

I have true image 11 home and have previously made a backup of the entire C drive of my dads pc. The image file validates but when I go to restore it, it just doesnt restore.

The pc (Dell Studio) restarts,

gets to the starting acronis loader... page

gets to the blue screen and the two progress bars appear on the screen

then the screen just goes black again and the pc starts like normal after a few seconds.

The image file size is just over 29gb. the hard drive has no errors on it according to windows chkdsk, the c drive has been formatted and a fresh version of vista has been installed, the partition is now bigger than it used to be at 255gb (used to be 234gb ...ish)

I cant seem to get it to work.

I use true image on my own pc and usually have trouble restoring unless I decrease the size of the partition beforehand and increase it back via trueimage in the restore options, but this still isnt working.

Can anyone give me a hand? I really dont want to have to go through and install all the programs a setting again, I have the file waiting there, it just wont go through with it.

I've now created a true image bootable media disk and used that to boot up with and it is not actually seeing the main hard disk on the pc, the external hard drive is being detected and thats the one that holds the image file but I cant choose the internal drive to restore it to. The internal hard drive is working fine and loads windows normally but true image isnt finding it and Im guessing this is the reason the original restoration wasnt working. can anyone help me out here?

Some Dell's have Symontec backup software on a hidden partition. True image's site say's it will interfere with the restore by making the drive not show up. You need to disable it or remove it altogether.

Thank's Jimboliah !

I had trouble at work with roomful of Dell's and restoring an image created with PING. I'll have to check those to see if they have that hidden partition.

Hooraaaay!! I got onto livechat on the acronis site, and they gave me a link to download an updated iso file for the bootable CD that contains the missing sata hard drive drivers and it worked! all restored fine and dandy :D I is a happy chap!
