trouble with blueprints

ok im getting really sick of this now. 5 different cars from the blueprint website and im having the same problem with them all.

ok the problem is that when i align all the blueprints up in photoshop i make sure that the roof from the side view matches the roof from the front and back view and same with the wheels. and the same with the top view i make sure that it matches the front and back view.

ive double check with the ruler in photoshop and its all lined up perfect. now when i go in max i make 4 planes for front, back, side and top same size as they are in photoshop, now once i get to parts on the car such as the front lights and grills they do not match on other views. on the front its perfect but on the side its a few inches away.

now this really annoys me because everything else matches and ive not touched the images apart from lining them up with the ruler.

can someone help me out on this please.

Simple thought here, (I don't mean to insult you by the question)

Did you create the planes the same size or are they all created per the dimensions of the images? i.e. did you go to the properties of the image to get the length and width measurements and use those as guides for your plane size?
Did you put all the blueprints on the same plane and just move copies of the planes around?

ok this is exactly what i do.


1. all 4 views of the car comes on one image.
2. take it into photoshop and make a new layer.
3. i use the rectangler tool to drag all 4 views seperatly to the new layer.
4. i then use the ruler to line up all the cars.
5. i make a new layer and then drag any of the cars i.e the front view to the new layer.
6. i trim it so the windows fits the car leaving no spare gaps.
7.save it all as a bmp.
8.i then make planes in max using the same size as in photoshop (go to image properties and copy the document size which is in centimetres)


i always make my planes seperate, so they are exactly the same as photoshop.

when looking in max they are still lined up perfect but stuff like the grills and lights are way off.

I'm willing to bet those "inner details" like the grills/lights/wing-mirrors are also off by the same amount in Photoshop. You say you line up the main details, wheels, roof etc... and while they may line up fine, they probably line up fine in Max too, right? I've yet to come across blueprints that are 100% accurate in this regard.

ye in both max and photoshop they are fine. its annoying tho because its not like its a few milimetres its a few centimetres lol

That's just the state of blueprints (generally). Sorry buddy... you'll have to play the guessing game. Play it by eye... at-least you have a guide, look at it that way!
