triangle geometry

Hi everyone

I am a beginner in 3D max and I hope you help me.
I have a model in 3D max someone else had made it. I have it now in my computer but I need to make sure that the mesh is triangles not quads. I need the model to be in triangle geometry not polygons. so, how can I know if it is triangles or quads? and if it was quads how to make it triangles?
please I need the detailed steps in the program because I am newbie. I mean which menue? which button etc...

Click on your object to select it, then right-click in the viewport to bring up the quad menu.
Go down to Convert To..., then Convert to Editable Mesh.
In the Modify panel, Selection rollout, click on the second icon to go to Edge sub-object level.
Type CTRL-A to select all the edges. They are now red and some of them are displayed as dashed lines.
Scroll down to the Surface Properties rollout and click the Visible button.
Click again on the Edge icon to exit Edge sub-object mode and save as a new scene.
