The moment you realize your first bit of commercial work was for...

So, I just realized that the first actual professional work I did in VFX was for Princess Leia's real life brother...

I'm gonna have to email the guy and thank him, cause I had no idea that he was who he was. I knew his mother was an older movie actress but man has my mind been blown today. The dude had the water pump on my `78 Camaro fixed, it's just too funny.

So, for those of us who work professionally in one sense or another...

Where did you get your start?

i worked doing cgi for architects about 25 years ago and when you see your imagery first being printed on billboards around town and on sides of buses and taxis and in the local press/tv news you quickly realise how relevant your work is.

These days i manage the contracts for the UK's largest bathroom retailer and other household named manufacturers. This is obviously thre nature of cgi professionally.

Globally, i did the cg for the Verizon Inception movie app several years ago. My claim to fame :P

One of the first things I did was some background graphics (swirling lights, etc) projected on to a screen behind a keyboard-based band who later found fame as the "Chemical Brothers".

First ever paid job, was while looking for an internship. A friend of my brother, had a Ink cartridge refilling buisiness. I got paid, a bit, to create a fckin amazing squid.

(PS, apologize for spelling, a bit drunk)
(edit: Link deos not work because of two http bits... copy paste if you want)

(edit. Nik, I dont think I get that, As I see the problemn is that only the last http is registered as a link, even though the whole line is a link.. Further edit.. http does not help, still only links the second half.. I'ts a great squid though)
Edit futherfurther.. Bolt.. I tried to do what you said, but it aint working for me.. could be the alcohol..)

Terribly boring signature.

Change https to http and the link should work.

EDIT: The forum won't make https links clickable, but will make http links clickable. NOt sure what the double HTTP will do though, it might make two links of it.

My first real (paying) job wasn't big, but out of the blue a small company contacted me for making some models and some renders both in 3ds and in CAD (at the time it was difficult to transfer from Max to any cad formats, and vise versa), that was right when I started college, just doing 3d as a hobby.

It was fun, building motorcycle frames and fuel tanks and brackets and stuff. And I made decent coin on it, for a college student. None of it is online anymore, I'll have to go through my old CD-RW and Zip drives (remember them stupid zip and jazz drives?) to see if I still have some renders somewhere. -

Given X, which is found to be more than 0 at any given moment; the likelihood of having a Zip Drive that is not corrupt is also, 0.

I try my best to forget about it, but my first proper job in games was doing this:

Annoyingly though, the buzz titles I worked on are arguably the most popular of any titles I've ever done, and that isn't saying much.

"I flew over Egypt once"

STRAT since when did you ever do anything that wasn't a photograph of a bathroom or kitchen? I'm calling bullshit on this one :)

My first stuff was for IKEA. Mostly for their internal employee education, but some of the models might've ended up in the catalogue.
