Hey! been a while since you seen me here.
Switched to maya due to Vancouver being a Maya town but I'm a max guy at heart and this place is awesome!

Got a bit of free time so i'm on a new personal project, trying to get better at lighting so that will be the main key for this project and modelling will be secondary. (which is why I'm practising lighting prior to it being finished)

The vehicle was made about 6 years ago so its not the best, but I still like the design of it so I might detail it up more.

All primitives are temp, and there's still something not quite right with the composition, so any crits, ideas or advice will be appreciated

With regard to the composition (to me personally) it feels cluttered. You've got what clearly looks like a military vehicle but it's sat in what could be my nextdoor neighbours shed. I'd bring the camera back a bit, give it more of a warehouse/machine-shop feel. That's all my own two cents though, disregard at your will!

But yeah, all the same this looks promising will be keeping an eye on your progress :)

I love the composition. And the camera angle. I'd go dDo on this scene and make it really dusty/grimy.

I pulled back the cam and made a bit more space so that I can cluster the clutter a bit better.

LionDebt, very good points :), however the garage is planned to be just an average Joe garage, the military vehicle of that sort is going to give contrast being in a regular garage and there is a story behind it, I just can't settle on which story I want to go with yet.

Update :), not looking forward to dealing with hypershader! got too used the material editor in max, even with nodes its way less complex.

You know what I'd like to see? The bonnet open and/or one of the panels off so you can see the mechanics underneath, seems like the camera angle was made to show off that stuff (plus it fits the whole garage scene).

Needs moar rivets :)

There`s a lot of pinching around the pillars ( ie the structure around the windows esp the front ) i think you`d go a long way to fix that..

herfst1, yes, that would be really cool! was thinking about that for a bit, ill try to do it but it will be after I texture up the garage and get a really good lighting setup.

ScotlandDave, agreed! I don't even know why I built it as 1 body piece when most military vehicles aren't built that way.

Also, anyone know what causes those spots in the render? the final gather is supposed to get rid of GI spots but somehow it creates some of them.
