The Force Awakens

What did you think then?

For me, especially with the original 3 my fav films and growing up with them i was pretty nervous, considering the last 3 attempts, but wow, it delivered. On several fronts. Big time. I was far from dissapointed what an awesome movie.
My first imax too, very impressive.

Mary Sue. Forced interracial love interest. Agenda > entertainment.

Sad times we're living in, I tell ya.

I wish You tube would get rid of that stupid light saber noise when you alter the volume, it's been pissing me off for days.

edit: and Google, light saber progress bar, there must be a setting to turn this crap off somewhere.

Not seen the film, no real interest although I may watch it sometime, people who dress up and go to conventions need therapy.

I went to see it with my 11 year old son and as such it was a perfect movie :-)

My 2 nephews (12&8) thought it so so. Couldn't get the hype.

I think to really understand it and "get" the hype you need to be of a certain age and generation type.

As i say, to me it was magical. Not in the same realms as the originals as i think nothing ever will be, but hey, not far from it. And can certainly stand next to each other most comfortably.

Herfst1 - i wish i could understand you sometimes :p

Unfortunately, Strat, I can't explain my stance without spoilers... which I won't do for the sake of others who might still want to see this "reinterpretation."

What a fucker! I feel for you mate.

The only down side of the movie was turning around in the theatre (i was sitting near the front) and seeing the entire auditorium sitting there all doing Stevie Wonder impressions. Strange things these imax events. I cant see it being the future to be honest.

I bet George Lukas was pissed off seeing the film, being that it's the best star wars film done in 30 years...

I wonder what his personal opinions are about episodes 1, 2 and 3?

I know his opinion of this new one is, meh... something like, "It's just fan service." [can't find the quote now]. It's an understandable stance, even if I think he's washed up, "“Well, the ones that I sold to Disney and everything, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own. It’s not the ones that I originally wrote.”

I was going to start a thread on this also to hear what people were thinking..

I'm not a huge star wars nut, but i thought it was great. I think Abrams nailed the balance of digital fx with analogue and physical models etc. Visually really great. There were so many shot's where i was wishing they'd just hold on to it for a bit longer and let these amazing environments breathe before cutting to the next shot, so i hope there's some kind of directors cut or something.

There were a couple of minor things in there where i thought 'oh thats a bit convenient isnt it' and the plot wasn't exactly a rich and complex tapestry - but i think there was enough in there to remain interesting and leave the audience with questions. Imo it's just a movie, not some fucking biblical message from the gods and don't see the point in reading too much into it beyond the superficial level..

Definitely looking forward to another one if that is the plan..

I liked it, but I didn't come away from it like a few other films. I really liked guardians of the galaxy for example. I would say that a lot of the hype is more relief that the film doesn't suck and maybe some fanboi tinted glasses.

It's a good film, don't get me wrong but I can't see myself wanting to see it multiple times like some of the other films I've really enjoyed in recent years. (GoG/Warrior/Nightcrawler etc).
