Great article there. I would agree with a lot of what was said regarding Max. It seems like there is a difference between the perception of the number of Maya users and the actual number of users.

Well, response to this I think I will now take about 15 minutes of my day to get up to speed on C4d so I can join the masses,...........and then I will spend 8 hours a day for the next 6 months learning Houdini so I can be l33t.

;-) wink-wink-nudge-nudge...

Interesting how both Max and Maya are consistently bottom in every category, on the other hand the free Blender done really well.

I`d agree that C4D is a good middle of the road app for price vs performance. Although there are certain bugs (as with any) it is as powerful and feature packed as the best.

Looks like Autodesk plan on bleeding their high-paying user base for as long as they can. I`d honestly like to see a list of useful features against cost for 3dMax since version 8 (which i use).

Dr jim 15 mins a day will make you c4d master after only one week so slow down a tad and make it 5 mins on c4d and 10 mins on blender. just to add balance. you dont want to show the rest of us up eh eh eh

Of course a lot of people (specificly blender lets face it) will say their software is great, probably having never used another app.

I'm really not surprised to see Max get a beating in that.

very interesting,

I'm currently using 3ds max and c4d at work for 3d, and i like to use blender in the future, as im an avid Linux/Unix user.

I find i agree with a lot of the responses in the survey and i think modo is worth having a look at, i hear good things. 3ds max is starting to bother me because of its lack of fixing current features and adding new things that arent incredibly exciting. Im worried that XSI is now in the hands of autodesk, however ive not used it before so i cant judge.

Cheers for providing the link, interesting stuff.

My take on this:

3DMAX, Xsi, Maya, they are the 'standards'. Most people use them.

People that use other products probably use them because they dont like the 'standards'.

Of course if you're using a non-standard, you're going to be more inclined to say nice things about it.

It's like the whole Mac/PC thing. Everyone raves about Macs because if you own one, you're sort of in a certain culture where you want to prove why you use it.

I think the important graph is the first one. Can't say I've used toooo many programs (I've used C4D a bit, and MAX), but i don't think the other graphs are representative of the quality of the particular software.

Lightwave is a standard too, lots of people use it, it has a larger base than Softimage.

Jim, i hear great things about c4d all the time, seems like a must to take a look at a trial or something, personally i have been trying blender and must say i'm impressed, can't wait to get my hands on the new version with loads of improvements and even a new interface i believe.

Last year i gave houdini a try, i still wake up screaming in the night, it's insane...
