Texturing-Lighting-Rendering Challenge 2016 - Disscussion/Preparation
show user profile  S. Silard
Vote Closed

Hey guys, so I have been thought about that since past year's speed modeling challenge.
The basic idea is, that I'd model a scene, specifically for this challenge. And the participants would have a 2 month time to texture it, light it up, and render it. Also I'd like if there would be 3 judges for this, who will obviously choose the winner, and give some feedback. So who would like to take this role?

I'm not sure if you guys are actually interested. So those who would participate, just reply with a short post.

The rules that are in my mind:

->One turn only.
->Meshes are not allowed to be added, deleted, changed, or remodeled. Only subdivision level can be changed. Also I'll create UVW maps, but those can be changed as well.
->Any renderer can be used.
->Any program can be used for texturing.
->Any source of stock texture is acceptable, but you have to credit them properly.
->WIPs should be posted, no ninja entries.
->File will be uploaded in 3DS-max 2011 format. But you are free to export it.
->I wont use any entry or wip in my portfolio. However, the participants can use their final piece, just have to credit me properly.
->Post Processing is allowed, but it should support the image, not define it.

Will two month be enough, or is it too much?

I don't know how much time will it take for me to get everything ready. So I do not know when we'll launch this. When is the best time for this?

Although I made a vote for topics, I'm open for further ideas. Actually for any ideas, related to rules as well.

So what do you guys think?

Congrats, you found my signature.

I'm in.

I've not voted, because I really don't mind what type of scene. :)

@mike_renouf -That's great, vote the one which you like the most.

As for the judges, I thought about Nik, Bolteon, and STRAT. If they are willing to do so. Do they?
Also, would need more than one participant, at least four. Just vote or send a message if you are interested.

Congrats, you found my signature.

Voted for exterior architectural. I've not done this very often, but it would be a useful commercial skill for me to develop further.

EDIT

One question - how much postprocessing work would be permitted for the challenge? Certainly with archviz the postprocessing stage seems to be given a lot of emphasis by some visualisers, though that again is not something I've done much of.

I'd say, the images should be taken straight out from the renderer.
Or maybe, it's okay to use post processing. Only then the participant should show how it looked before it.

Emmm, I think we just have enough votes. Needs one more to decide if SciFi/Fantasy Environment or a Single object should it be.

Edit: Nobody seems to rise his hands to be the judge. Should it be a public vote than?

Congrats, you found my signature.

I don't mind assisting with the judging, since I might not participate.

I'll participate if I get to do the model, then get all of you to texture and render it for me, then I can use it in my portfolio. Win, win.

Good point herfst1! Added to the rules: I wont use any entry or wip in my portfolio. However, the participants can use their final piece, just have to credit me properly.

Congrats, you found my signature.
