Texturing

Hi,
When unwrapping a scene or model, is it better to place all polys into one texture and have a larger, higher res texture or separate the polys into separate textures and thus smaller, lower res textures?

Thanks

Better to have one texture, especially if you're dealing with a game engine. I've heard something about some places having the 'technology' to create a sort've... texture index, that compiles multiple texture sheets into one to be sourced from. But us common folk needn't worry about such witch craft.
