Textures don't display in renderer

Hi. I'm trying to render a simple scene with one mesh, no lights and default renderer -- nothing special. I have a standard blinn material assigned to the mesh and that blinn has a gradient map from white to black as a diffuse color. The object has UV mapping where it should be and the gradient shows in the viewport. The material has 100 illumination and 100 opacity and everythign else is normal. When I try to render the object all that shows is the diffuse color, not the diffuse texture. How do i fix this?

I am confused by this, are you saying you have two maps in your diffuse slot? A procedural gradient AND a texture map? Using blend/mix?

Post up a screenshot of your material editor with your current settings.

No, it's just a gradient from the map type, like where you would choose bitmap or falloff or one of those. Just a basic gradient in the diffuse slot. When i say the texture doesn't load, I mean the gradient -- though I've tried with a bitmap and that doesn't show either. SO I think it's the texture part, not the fact that it's a gradient. also, when I turn off the 100 illumination, the default lighting comes on, but the texture is still not there. Just a grey box (which is the diffuse color beside the slot.)

Thanks for your help.
