Texture Problems
show user profile  MrCaseStudy
I have created a model of a F1 Mclaren MP4/8, i created it by only modelling one side of the car so then when i was finished i added a symmetry on to the model, now when i come to texture the body of the car i get a craszy finished, i have not yet smoothed the car, but for some reason it looks like both sides of the car overlap when clearly when i did the symmetry they didnt.....

sorry the pics are huge!!

This is because you have relied on the incredibly unreliable automatic unwrapping technique. if you want to texture this model well do some tutorials on unwrapping.

the black line down the middle is due to the car being only mapped from the side and the polygons at the top are right at the edge of the texture and some of the black around the edge is creeping into the uvs. textures ideally need to be a couple pixels 'padding' around the outside (i.e. add a few pixels of the same colour around the edge of the texture shape to guarantee the model gets the proper colour.

...but please learn how to unwrap properly, you will benefit exponentially.

don't be modest when it comes to these things Grotey, tell him about your tutorial, it explains everything nice and clear. Here you go:http://www.maxforums.org/threads/life_sea_turtle_tutorial_mrgrotey/0001.aspx
