How do I set texture paths for the 3ds max Material Library?
show user profile  fly
I copied a project's material library from my laptop to my home network server and the paths to the textures are different. What is the best way to change and update the paths for my material library file so all the textures load properly?
I know that if I Customize - Configure User Paths and Choose a New External Files Path that 3dsmax will find the textures. The paths of the material remain the same though so that is not the solution I'm after. I want to be able to Set Path like in Asset Tracking. The Bitmap/Photometric Paths Utility is so obsolete that using - Incllude Material Library - doesn't work.

I have Relink Bitmaps. While it's great for the materials in a scene it doesn't work for open material libraries. I guess I'd have to load each material and save.

Ah right, not sure what your trying to do, RB fixes everything for me, what do you mean by "open" material library ?

You edited as I was replying, yup fix the paths and save would be the obvious route.

Here's the solution:
I posted this in another thread but the solution would make the "Bitmap/Photometric Paths" Utility with Include Material Library work.

I reverted to the old Scene Explorer and Material Browser like this guy did. http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2013/01/3dsmax-annoyances-no-1/

After those changes you can use the Bitmap/Photometic Paths utility to find the associated textures in your material library.
