So... who here likes Tequila??

I'm the first to say, that I am NOT a tequila person. I usually don't like the taste. I'm more of a scotch and bourbon guy. I love even some of the harshest scotches straight, but tequila usually makes me want to barf, haha!

However, my landlord stopped by tonight and brought over a bottle to share. I was very impressed, a very smooth taste, not harsh at all. Great to just sip at room temperature straight. We had... probably to much of it. haha! woooOO!

Plus... the bottle has T&A ;-)

Anyway, what's some other good and reasonably priced tequilas to try? I think this bottle was about $40+, though we aren't sure since it was given to him as a gift. -

This is not a tequila but it's easily the best liquor I've ever had.

Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to find around here, I've only ever gotten my hands on half a bottle.

I love a good vodka. Straight from the freezer, on it's own.

Beer. I find hard liquor to be too unpredictable, sometimes it works as expected, other times I keep drinking and drinking and nothing happens until I'm suddenly shitfaced and hugging the carpet.

Well, being mexican and bar friendly, I've never seen that bottle in my life (I'd remember).Probably stuff for foreigners. Glad you liked it, though.
Smoother tequilas -as any spirit- are usually the aged ones, altough they get very little time compared to whiskey, for example. Aged tequilas can be 2 year old or so.
That being said, a short list in no particular order. All are good. The last one a bit harsher. Some may be found on duty free shops.

Herradura reposado
Don Julio

PS try mezcal also. Can be quite edgy, though.

Manolo: Yea, I bet there's alot of good tequila and mezcal that never leaves mexico.

2 years is pretty short though, eh? I wonder why that is? Do they just peak at around 2 years, not worth waiting longer? -

Well Daniel, I blame it on eagerness to drink it and its youth as a beverage; At 200 years old, it is a young spirit. I'm sure we'll see really aged tequila and mezcal soon enough. With crazy prices, for their quite restricted D.O. So save those bottles a few years.

Looks like a Liqueur, which is hard alcohol mixed with sugar (or something else that makes it sweeter) and herbs/spices I imagine. They usually aren't all that tasty if you are expecting it to taste like the original liquor. I imagine they are usually used for mixed drinks.

One that I like when I have a cold and soar throat, is "Drambuie" It's a spiced scotch whisky. Normally I find it way to sweet to drink. But when I have a cold and a soar throat, it seems to go real well when you warm it up. I just float a glass of it in some boiling water for a minute or two.

Other than that, they are usually way to sweet for me, haha -
