swallow-bulge effect
show user profile  threeeD
Hello everyone,

another newbie question- i want to create an effect like a snake eating a rat, the rat then moving "down" inside the snake, causing it to bulge. I guess you know what i mean ? (my english is not the best). How do i have to set up the bodies to do that ?
Thanks for any help!

Use an animated FFD cage.

i think this wont look good enough, since it has to form the shape of the rat a bit and would look strange at the transition from "chewing" to swallowing (vanish). I'm sure there is a way to have the actual body deform the other from inside?

Perhaps morph targets then?

(i've edited the post above - regarding one body deforming the other)
i'm not sure how morph targets would work, but it sounds too complicated, too?

Bulge - o -Matic ?

Should be able to get an elongated shape easy enough.

Actually, morph targets would be the best and easiest; just make a morph for each foot position of the rat.

Can click a single vertex and use soft select, pushing down on the local coordinates to make each morph. Then label them nicely e.g. "LF_1" for left front position #1. and key frame them in at the right times.

BulgOMatic looks good ! I think it can be done with it. Though i'm a little disappointed..i thought something like that was an easy thing to do, using the original bodyshape, without plugins.
Another thing i thought of, if not the rat itsself, i could make a rat-shaped spline and Loft-model/animate it along the snake ?

I'll have a look at morph targets...am not familiar with it.

Maybe if you tried what Nik suggested without instantly dismissing it you might have found what you were looking for.

@mrgrotey
why try when i know it's not creating the effect that i want ? it's not a matter of taking advice just out of politeness.

You said you are newbie, thus you can not certainly know if it couldn't work, without trying it.
