Super8 = not so super great....
show user profile  9krausec
Ok, so this is just me bitching about Hollywood... Personally, I am sick of most of these newer movies being crap... I mean, visually they are great, but most are lacking in any decent sort of plot...

For instance, if you have seen super8 you should be able to relate to what I am saying... What a lame ass ending... The movie was OK, but I think it could of been way better (plot wise)...

Ugghhh.. Come on Hollywood, pick up your game!

And come on, "Rise of the planet of the Apes"??? Really? That just looks stupid... And Apollo 19 or whatever... looks really stupid.. Transformers 3 looks bitchin though.

What do you think about Hollywood? Are they just running short of any decent ideas for movies?

In a way i suppose it`s the difference between fastfood/junkfood and a healthy meal. Way more money to be made selling junkfood, mass consumption,`tastier`.. Sounds like a lame analogy but basically true imo..

Not that i think it`s all bad!

Sure, give me a multimillion dollar budget and unrestricted creative freedom.

"Sure, give me a multimillion dollar budget and unrestricted creative freedom."

you'd still end up with something a lot worse off.

I thought Super 8's ending was fine. "Good enough.." I say. Wasn't spectacular, but certainly nothing to really bitch about. I'm stoked the rest of the movie was actually very well done.

"And come on, "Rise of the planet of the Apes"???
Aww. You hurt Weta's feel bads. =( It's their first movie, give em' a minute to experiment with a dead IP.

"Transformers 3 looks bitchin though."
So did Transformers 2... I still have nightmares of boredom. ;)

The problem is interntional revenue. A good plot line is only understoodby people who speak the language the movie is in. Even still it is only appreciated by a further select few. Take 2012 for example. Rubbish plot, fantastic effects. Had every animation studio under the sun working on it. In english speaking countries it didn't do so well, but overseas it grossed over 300 million. That is why visual effects always come first. Then there is the fact that movies aren't written by writers, they're written by producers with a wide target audience a high profits in mind. Writers are only there to tie up loose ends

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

I'm not saying I personally could do better... I guess I just miss the days of creativity where a movie actually revolved around a decent plot that wasn't a remake of an older movie...

In a sense, great for us, the movie industry is putting more importance over flashy, awe inspiring visuals than an actual substantial plot, but it is just annoying is all....

I'm not saying it's easy to create a good film, I'm not saying it's fast or cost efficient, all I am saying is that I would very much like to see a new film come out that really pulls me in...

So far in the past few years, the new Star Trek is one of the only movies that I have seen that sticks out in my all too poor of a memory as being a GREAT movie, and it was pretty much a damn good remake of the original (which sometimes, I would presume, is a harder thing to do because you need to give justice to an original, piece of cinema which is remembered by an older generation).

I just feel, as a consumer of cinema, today's movies need to get back into the fundamental basics of good plot and good film...

Not everything needs to explode or morph into something else for a good movie. Stuff is just seems too darn generic or over done I think, but then again, that is MY opinion as a consumer of films that I present to maxforums in rant form after seeing the end of Super8 and thinking to myself, "Is that really how this movie is going to end? Really? Some generic rain to symbolize rebirth and the main character giving up a memory that has been held on to all of his life?? Haven't seen that one before...."

@Bolts- Nah, I'd rather not.. I am a consumer, speaking my mind about a product that I feel has not met my personal standards to make it a good product. Not saying I can do better, just saying that for me, some of these newer films aren't really cutting the cake sort of speak which makes me wonder why cinema has been progressively moving downward in substance.

I think you're being moody and spending money on the wrong flicks. There have been a lot of very good movies lately.

Solid films in very recent years: The Social Network, Shutter Island, The Fighter, Kick Ass, Inception, The Hurt Locker, Daybreakers, True Grit, Public Enemies - list goes on.

"I guess I just miss the days of creativity where a movie actually revolved around a decent plot that wasn't a remake of an older movie"
Explain. When were the 'days of creativity?'

The days before remakes, reboots, prequels,tv-show-to-movie, and repackaged digitally enhanced oldies.

I think what enhances what 9kr is talking about is all the momentum that is wrought from certain movies that turn out to be like what he experienced instead of what he expected.

Please do, and be sure to explain the part about bad people making movies, like thieves, gays, priests and criminals.
