Suggestions for my Final please - Simple Animation
show user profile  Leash
Hey there, i'm new to the Maxforums and very new to animation software in general. I am assigned to create a 5s animation to go in front of the schools videos. I plan to do something very simple (being that that is all I can handle) I plan to have a stamp come in, stamp the words "(High School Name) Productions" and maybe a light flash or something. Any suggestions? I can pull this off but I want to jazz it up a bit, so any comments or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

keep it simple and just use FFD's, Bend and Stretch for animating the stamp. That's how i did my first couple of anims and they came across pretty neat and it's a good beginners way of animating still life objects. and it keeps you from having to learn about bones, ik and skinning for now.

Is there a way to make the letters 'bleed' or run that is somewhat simple?

i used to have a plugin for stuff like that but, it was years ago....all i can think of is a bunch of cheating with tear-shaped spheres and animating the stretch of it slightly above the surface.
maybe someone will pop in here and give you some good ideas that might work better.

hi leash -

for your first try (not the first at all, but the first serious, i hope) in 3d
you choose a real tricky thing!
i would do it with a surface deform via displacement strenght animation on a ultra-high-poly-plane
and for some dropping-somewhat-sticky-liquid there is a tut outthere at:

thanks pete

and greetings, U.

Thanks alot for all the tips, appreciate it!

I think i'm going to change my idea a bit though, I instead want to have a bi-plane flying and writing the letters I want in smoke. This brings up a few questions, please forgive my excessive newbery at 3ds.

So I was gonna have the text and make a spline on top of the letters that the plane will follow. How do I get the letters to only appear after the plane has flown over them?

Unfortunately I do not have the discs that came with 3ds, and the tut books and help guide dont really answer this so please don't think I didn't try before coming here.

Is there a smoke material? or like a vapor or something that I could apply to my text?

Thanks alot for all of the help!
