StarCraft 2 sucks
show user profile  TheShrike
IN MY OWN HUMBLE OPINION!

I had the beta and it seemed like every game I played was all about massing and blobbing one good unit. I hate how the battles are pretty much just running your troops at eachother. Not a whole lot of strategy. Seriously how did it take this long to make the same game again? There are a bunch of new units and shit, but no garrison or cover system, and no unit veterancy.. You can upgrade your troops but they are still pretty expendable. The game has gotten so much press just because it's Blizzard and they make World of Ballscraft, but I don't think it is anywhere near as fun or strategic as Company of Heroes or Dawn of War 2.

Can someone who loves the game tell me why it is so awesome?

And yes, I did play the original and I loved it, but that was 1997. I couldnt go back and play 007 for N64 and have a great time with that either... So if they remade it with better graphics and some new shit, I would still think it was a great game for the time but kind of sucks as a new one.

-edit- didn't mean to make this a "work in progress"post.

Well, StarCraft 2 -is- still a work in progrress :) (isnt it?)

I was going to say RTS games can be frustrating and hard to master, but apparently you have been playing other RTS'es so i'm sure you know that.

Anyway, i hope they release a demo.

"but I don't think it is anywhere near as fun or strategic as Company of Heroes or Dawn of War 2. "

Dawn of war 2 was the worst sequel to a game ever! The first game was the best LAN RTS I have ever played, and for some reason they decided to fck up the multiplayer part completely when they released DOW2...

Single player campaign is alright, but I sure wish they hadn't screwed up the multiplayer bit so badly.

Haven't tried SC2 yet, but I suppose I will have to give it a go at some point... But I might wait until they release the Gold version(or whatever Blizzard calls them) with all 3 campaigns in one box..

Terribly boring signature.

dont know how the gameplay cause i didn;t play it but i agree that the development time is ridiculous, they'd better come up with the best rts of all time

also...you might want to watch some original starcraft games between the top players out there, the first starcraft seems to lack strategy and all that fancy stuff like cover and all that but it still is to this day the harderst rts to master and it allows for the greatest tactical maneuvers and strategy in it's apparent simplicity. Check out some vod's here http://www.tastelessgaming.com/
this guy knows his starcraft and his comentary is hillarious and it's quite fun to watch White Death

Dow2 is certainly different to Dow1 but for the better in my opinion. SP like in all games is crap but MP is great fun, you just cant beat playing against someone else rather than a stupid AI. It does make it much better when you play with 2 guys you know mind you, but even some random games turn out good.

As for SC2, i havent played it but the videos ive seen have been enough to ensure i dont buy the thing, it looks terrible, from both a gameplay and a visual point of view. I understand it has a huge following and maybe i'm missing something but I wont be buying it, i'm happy with Dow2 and CoH.

I played SC2 beta aswell and whilst I mainly buy blizzards RTS games for their editors and singleplayer, I must say i find multiplayer rather fun. To say it's just massing a bunch of good units is not really fair to the game, as it is all about knowing what your enemy does and counter it, along with micro'ing. I honestly never played the first ones multiplayer, but I agree that it looks very similar which is both a good and a bad thing,

With regards to DOW2 i think the multiplayer is terrible, and the singleplayer is fun for a while but then gets very very repetive. The worst thing bout DOW games is that it takes ages to kill anything where in SC2 any unit dies rather quickly, making it the combat feel that much more violent.

I do hope for brilliant SC2 singleplayer tho, the time they've spend making the game is a bloody joke, as it always is with Blizzard, however they often do bring out some great campaigns and storyarcs.

Have you seen some of the pro replays?

It's not just massing one good unit.. That strategy sucks against someone who actually knows how to play the game..

Go watch some epic gameplay http://day9tv.blip.tv

It's the same old UT vs COD debate only in the other genre.

It's supposed to be fast, frantic and fun. And not taking ages to kill one unit, getting your units to level up for hours etc...
I don't like rts genre in the general but I'll take sc over anything else in no time (well maybe red alert 2 has more nostalgic value for me).

I also mass 1 or 2 basic units, just because I'm no good at it. If you find it too easy or un-strategic, go and play with the big boys with your massing, you won't last 2 minutes.
Playing competitive games singleplayer doesn't count

IMHO I think newer games have become obsessed with layering on new mechanics that end up over complicating game play and really just strangle what makes a game fun to begin with. I'm kind of glad to hear they haven't changed much. But that's just me...

No matter what there is going to be that group of people who hate the game, and to me it sounds like Blizzard is catering to the fan boys who loved Star Craft for what it was to begin with, of which there is no shortage.

Anyone else drooling over the new SC2 commercial...? =P~ I'd buy the game for the cinematics alone!

there's nothing strategic about RTS games man, it's always been about rushing and will always be about rushing. Company of Heroes or Dawn of War 2 were twists of the genre, they are somewhat different but they don't define the genre by a long shot. I liked Dune 2 just as much as anyone, and even a few of the RTS games that followed (Age of Empires, the first Warcraft) but comon, how long do people want to keep on buying the same game with new graphics over and over again.

If you expect your enemy to give you some time so you can build an uber army before attacking, RTS games are not for you ;)

Harrasment is always important in the early stage of a match, why would you allow your enemy to build an good economy and become stronger and stronger?
