Spline mesh taper

Hi folks,

When you create a spline and set it to renderable you get a mesh tube alon the line but making it like a branch afterwards is a huge pain.

Is there a way to taper a mesh created from a wiggly spline (so it follows the path) so it ends in a tip?

If you use Loft and a cross-section spline (a circle) rather than using the thickness property of the splne, you can scale the path at places along the length using the Scale Deformations options at the bottom of the modifier.

Something I tackled recently for some veins, is it just a single spline or does it need to branch out into smaller branches ?

Anyway, basically what Nik said, Spline Mesher does this too, a bit more accessible than the loft route for single splines:

kind of simple.
-create a tall, thick Cylinder w/lots of segments(this will be the trunk)
-add a Taper mod with the point at top
-goto Poly sub obj and select a poly
-open the Graphite Ribbon at the top of UI
-select the Branches mode and drag on your selected poly
-instant branches

Blimey guys, all very good info!

Nik, i'm using lofts now but it gets 'very' workintensive doing bigger models of veins.
I'm looking into speeding things up and be able to alter veins later.
Lofts won't let me mesh 2 branches together and alter them later on.

That speedtree thing looks awesome, any more plugs like that out there ?
edit: speedtree license from $900 to $5000 hahaha ... zomg

Go the UE4 route for SpeedTree....
