Making a spline follow a path.......grrrrr There must be a way!

OK.....picture this:

The following is NOT my exact situation,...I am presenting it in a simple way to hopefully get some help.

I have a long thin spline object from Illustrator. It is essentially a long outline shape with various notches cut out of it (so it bends 1 way...then continues...then bends back...etc)...
It also has rounded corners.

I want this spline to be able to travel and deform along a path.....E.G. Pathdeform mod would be ideal.

Problem is...since the spline is composed of mostly straight segments, wond bend properly.
It is wayyyyyyy too long a spline to simply set the interpolation to 100. (And not even sure if that helps anyway in this instance).

I tried making it a NURB (which i know nothing about)....that didnt help either.....

Are you extruding this spline? if so add a subdivide modifier. It will help it bend the way you want it to.

Would prefer not to extude it. I would like to use it as a renderable spline.

Is it an editable spline?
If so, can't you just use the refine tool and add more verts manually?

thats ALOT of verts my friend. It wont just automatically deform and follow the path properly byt adjusting a straight segment betweek 2 verts to be a curve....follow?

You would have to add a shit ton of verts to get it to not look segmented.....etc.

Without seeing what you're trying to do it hard to help.
One last thought.
What if convert the verts to smooth or bezier?
I did a quick test and it does bend smoothly around a curve without too many verts.
