Spline causing mesh deform. Refine Connect
show user profile  Acorr
Hey all,
So Im new to 3Ds Max (former Blender user) and when trying to model with splines I get a serious mesh deform. Deformed areas dont show up in render either. Normals are correct. But I don't know why I am getting this deformation.

Any help Appreciated!
Cheers,

Some fixes to try.

1. Assume you're using surface modifier? Turn the threshold down to 0.01, or 0.001, or any low number.

2. Fuse-weld the verts that are causing the problem.

3. Turn verts to corner, then back to bezier or smooth (this will reset the handles).

4. Convert to editable poly.

P.S. This isn't the type of object that I'd spline model, standard poly modelling will do just fine.

[edit] Yeah, I'm sure appreciative of these leeching noobs. Advice is free, so is thanks.

Not sure if your object is a spline cage with surface/patch topology, or if you created it from splines, but converted it to editable polygon object? If that is a spline cage with surface modifier we are looking at, then you're using it incorrectly. How are you editing the spline cage? With a edit patch modifier? I'd start over and using polygon modeling techniques as mentioned in the first reply to achieve that shape, or if you are determined to create it using splines, then just create the cage, apply a surface modifier, then an edit patch modifier, and use the edit patch tools to create the extrusions, etc. However, that's a really inefficient way to achieve that shape, and the edit patch tools are far more limited than the edit poly tools in 3dsmax, as I'm sure they are in Blender as well. Blender's spline modeling techniques might be a little different than Max, so what you were used to in Blender might need a different approach in Max.
