Speed moving zooming?

I notice when I move and zoom while in close range it tends to take forever. any way around this?

I'm using wheel up and down for zoom
Click wheel for move
and Alt-click wheel for rotate.

Use the "Zoom selected" command.

There are cheaper ones than the $300 one. Mine was less than $50.
