Hy all,

I am currently working on aspaceship I would like to design.

I've got the body part of my spaceship kinda ready. I unwrapped all the parts and now am able to generate te textures. I am wondering what is most common easy thing to do ?

Use standard metal planes from any texture website or do you design all your textures yourself ? or do you download a standard metal texture and add your own graphics to it ?

Here is an example of my spaceship please give me some advice!

Hi There. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it looks like a flying penis. Might I suggest modifying your design a bit if your going to want to show this off once its finished.He he. :)

As far as the textures, I'd maybe just do whatever works for you. Probably a mixture of made and existing stuff using a 2d gfx app like photoshop. Its all about what you want though. Get an idea, then make it so !!

Hy guys,

I don't know where your thought are when you think of that ;).

But yes It is not quite finished and I will add a lot more stuff to itto make it more a "spaceship".

I will just have to keep trying... i gues or some more usefull tips ? http://www.galaxycommander.nl

If you aren't done modeling, then you aren't ready to texture.

for this? i would use promaterials, but i use promaterials on everything..... so ya. maybe a multi/sub-object material with different promaterials in it.....

if I were you I would try to copy an existing spaceship concept, that way you have a clear aim, a reference and you'll learn all about the technical side. Once you succeed in doing that you'll be ready to invent your own concept.

You'll get more productive feedback when you are working from a reference and there are a few helpful people here who will take an effort to help you accomplish the technical side. Be sure to give credit to the designer of the concept etc etc...

hanksr00tbeer I would add the extra stuff in seperate scenes the body model won't differ from as it is now...

Those promaterials never heard of them what are they ?

Setherial that might be a good idea, but as you all can see I'm a beginner and i'm not sure which spaceship I would be able top "copy" ?

I am being serious. It looks like a giant flying phallus.

Break up its form with different structures that somehow relate to its design and construction, or at least put some giant balls on the base for engines.

The Eagle spaceship from the Moonbase alpha 1999 tv series looks a bit like the generel shape but much less organic.

So you might look into that :-)

This one seems fairly easy (pilot excluded)

Just start by looking up a few subdivision tutorials, learn how to use the editpoly modifier. For now don't mind the textures, just go for the shape. We'll help you out if you show a serious effort.
Keep in mind that most of the detail you see can be textured.

Ok Setherial,

The shape I will try to generate and will post my renders at this forum so you can give me advice.

Just curious how long would a normal novice designer take to generate such a ship with textures and all ?
