| Sooo... any news on a new Max version like 2013 ? |
soontekk |
Wondering what they will come up with now. A bugfixed 2012 or some cool new things we have been wanting for years like fluids, pflow upgrade, improved sculpting/painting, etc..
Any news out there about this yet ?

It's in the works. Can't say any more about it.

A node based wiring system would be nice. And an array tool that lets you access all of the original object's properties.

It would be nice if they replaced some of the Reactor physics tools they took out.

Yup.
Max needs a unified particles/physics/liquid/cloth solution.
It feels borked at the moment and the removal of Reactor was quite sudden. Normally they don't remove legacy features. Must be a licensing issue, I'm guessing.

all this secrecy is a bit pointless, autodesk has bought out any and all serious competition, so who are they keeping info from other than the user base? ;)
hope v2013 is better than v2012- hope it's better than v2009 actually- then it would be something

Kurt, please don't read anything into my yups. They are strictly agreeing on things that were stated here. I'm under an NDA with Autodesk, so even if I had some info, I could never say it outside of that group of people.
I can say what I think though, and I really think a few parts of Max (2012) are, um, messy and need fixing. Some of them, they have publicly said that they are being worked on. In a conference last year, they said that the PhysX stuff was going to be expanded to include more of the functionality that had relied on Reactor. Cloth, rope, etc. There could be live physics in the viewports, they had goals of bringing into Max some of Soft's tools.
How much they attempt with the next version of Max remains to be seen. Some of the goals were long-term.
@K-tonne: I think they don't release details until the feature list is completed and they are pretty sure what's going to make the release date. While I understand why they keep it secret, it would be awesome if they were more open with plans, beta versions for all registered users, etc.

On the XBR webinars they used to say that they won't give a feature list because they can't promise that feature xy will definitely make it into the next release.

The XBR webinars are a great source of future Max info.

I love webinars. Being a hermit, it's like having company. Any cool updates will be wonderful because after all, I'm all the way in with max. Both feet.
