Holy shit! Great stuff, especially the first two. I am impressed. What did you use to take these? Wow.
As per your request, the only insect photo I've taken.

Thanks guys!
The funniest thing: Camera: EOS 5D okay that thing is expensive.
But now I got 2 setups to shoot macro:
Setup 1 - Canon L lens 100-400 mm about €2000 - Canon 500D Macro filter-lens about €150
Then I got Setup 2 Sigma 70-300 about €120-150 (I got it for 90 euro's with filter+remote) Raynox DCR-250 about €30
So 2150 euro's v.s. in my case 120 euro's.
These shots where taken with setup 2 for 120 euro's. I can't get even close to this quality with the 100-400 mm lens + 500D filter.
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON! And that old damaged sigma 70-300 (alcoholics and other liquids went over it, fell a couple of times.. etc) Kicks ass.... what a price/quality ratio!!!!
hehe :) My small rant on how sometimes price=bullshit (A)

Macro photography is a very different thing. A lens that is fantasic at regular photography will likely be shit for macro. It's like complaining that your indy car sucks for offroading.
Check out the following pics by a friend of mine:
http://www.apbworks.co.nz/fly_tiger_index.htm
A sample:
DISCLAIMER - NOT MY PHOTOGRAPH
They are all taken with a crappy $50 Canon 18-55mm kit lens stuck on the camera backwards.
The properties that make the lens so shit for regular photos just so happen to make it an awesome macro.

Steve, wow that's really close up! awesome :-D What kind of detail can you see when you zoom in to the photo?
Nik, great photo! I like it :-D
Dub, that's creepy! SHeesh! haha! I've seen people use a 50mm/1.8 backwards, but haven't seen someone use a zoom backwards, he did a good job I think!
not an insect, but a macro I shot a few days ago at work, it's a bottle with water drops on it (the main drop is glycerin though) with tin foil behind the bottle to refract through. 60mm Zeiss Makro-Planar focused to 1:1 on a 1Ds2, shot wide open at f2.8. It was difficult to see what I should focus on (since I shot it wide open, not much would be in focus anyway) since the entire shot is pretty much just reflections and refractions. So, I decided to focus on the profile of the main drop.

2nd and the third last on here:

nowhere as close as yours thou, very cool pics you got there.
I did try Sticking my stock 18-55 Canon lens on backwards but its pretty hard to hold, focus, AND zoom at the same time!

hey VKotek here are a couple of tips.
You MUST use a flash. Make a "duct" for the on board flash that "pipes" the light in front of your lens out of tinfoil and white cardboard.
If you're using a reversed lens, you need to stop it down - obviously, because it's not plugged in, you can't adjust the aperture. So all you need to do is set the aperture you need with the lens on properly. Then hold down the aperture preview button (next to the lens mount) and while you are holding it down, take the lens off. The aperture will remain at the value you set it at. :)
Just move the camera in an out for focus. Use a bunch to duct tape to hold the lens in the right place.
It all sounds ghetto but the pics I linked to were all taken like that.

dub, I never knew about that aperture trick, nice! It sucks that canon doesn't put an aperture ring on their lenses anymore, like Nikon still does.
