Some cool NVIDIA stuff
show user profile  Nanne
NVIDIA is doing some really cool stuff, I want it all in 3ds Max! Well, we can always hope... :P

Here is the new GeForce card; TITAN Z with 12gig VRAM - nice! :)

Here are some rendering demos with the TITAN Z using their unified physics system, FLEX

Here are some more, but older, demos of FLEX. Autodesk have been talking about a unified physics system for Max... I hope it's this integrated with Particle Flow!

Here's a pretty impressive demo of what's going on with iray... or at least if you have $50,000 to spare...

Here's Pixar showing off their animation software Presto, rendering 900,000 hair strands in real-time as well as dynamically tessellating SubDivision Surfaces in real-time. If only Max could pull that off!

Real time technology is really cool! :) Think I gonna put one of those VCAs on my christmas list... or perhaps two! :P

If you still got some points left for the 3ds Max Customer Feedback program, why not vote on my idea to integrate FLEX in 3ds max :)

All we need is like 750+ votes and then wait for a couple of years and we'll get it! Well it worked out for Quad Chamfer at least :P

This is pretty cool as well! GPU accelerated Final Gather in mental ray :)

You can actually already offload the AO calculation to the GPU with mr in Max, Garry M. Davis explains how here:

Even more cool stuff! This is a presentation of mental ray and iray for Maya and Max 2015.

Check out the information at the end about LPE (Light Path Expressions), which seams to be scriptable "render elements" where you define yourself what "light interaction" you want to capture in separate files, giving you enormous control in post :)
Here is some more info at the iray blog
Check out the room with different coloured walls; all the light bouncing of that wall is captured in a separate image that is then tinted and added upon the rest of the scene.

That we still have an un-unified, messy, broken and incomplete physics system in Max is infuriating.

I wish AD would actually do something impressive rather than be 5 years behind on this front.

Wow, this is cool! :) NVIDIA ARC have created a script that exposes GPU accelerated GI (Final Gather, se above) in Max/Maya 2015 for users to try out. Read more about it here:

I'll give it a try as soon as I get the chance!

Development of mental ray and iray seams very slow now days... but this goes to show that they are at least doing something :P And it makes sense that they are focusing on GPU acceleration of course. But it is irritating how they spread out the features of mental ray between Max and Maya rather then exposing them equaly in both packages, i.e. Maya has got the now MILA (Layered Material) System that Max does not have so far... oh well, perhaps one day... In the meantime - GPU GI! :)

Slower rendering using the GPU for me, although I have an older card and haven't updated to the latest drivers.

Slowed me down too using a Quadro 4000. I will try again later using a more powerful GPU.
