soil rock cutaway
show user profile  Joey Parker Jr.
I need to do a cutaway showing relief soil and rock.
I was thinking of sculpting it in zbrush. I know I could do it with displacement map but wondered if anyone had any other ideas or any zbrush procedure advice.

Here's an example of what I want to create. Just the below ground part.

I think you need to start.
Zbrush the main form. Try to bake some displacement map and export it all to max.
After that things will be more clear.

displacement in MAX (ideally vray)....
What am I missing.....this doesn't seem too complex at all.
Are you flying in super close to it?

khamski - Thanks. I don't use zbrush but want to start and thought this would be a good project to start with. So I agree, I need to start :)

Dr Jim - I have to make very specific types of rock layers in very specific patterns and I don't have a bitmap image to go by so my thinking was to create it in zbrush. I guess I could try and "paint" it in photoshop and use that for my displacement. I will be panning around the still scene in AE and moving kinda close. It more that I want control over the texture in a very specific way.
