Are soft constraints bugged for all in mCloth?

For me, any vertex constraint with "soft" checked just makes it explode when i run simulation. I'm wondering if its just my max or you guys too? I remember it working at some point...

Failing that, any ideas on how to reduce the springiness in mcloth? The cape I got is like a giant condom, just bouncing around like nuts. I got the damping value set to 1, solver iters and fps in the hundreds.. not enough, increasing stretchiness does help with the bouncing but it makes it stretchy which I don't want.

Did some more testing, apparently its something to do with soft selection and convex meshes (non one sided) in combination with damping. Either has the ability to make it explode.
