Social media and me
show user profile  STRAT
As most of tou probably know, im not a social media exponent. But, after talking to a few people i know, and deciding to get my presence more 'out there', i've decided to embrase the fookin things!

It'll mean updating my site and opening facebook, instagram, twitter, tumblre etc etc etc accounts. But i want to do it in such a way my weekly/daily input is minimal. I'll be updating the one accound regulaly, probably facebook, and having my other social media accounts automatically post and have stuff pushed to them. Like a domino effect.

It's not a hard core business strategy im after, just a hobbiest looking to keep abreast online.

So, can anyone recomend a good site i can go read up on for all tis shite? Something in BOG BASIC PLAIN ENGLISH that nicely explains the concept of social media and how to make it work for you. Something that'll he explain how they can all interact together kinda thing. And of course, what they are and what they do in the first place.
I found wiki not really applicable in easy explanations and examples of how it all works.

So if anyone can point me in a good general direction of where a noob can gen up on this shit i'd be most greatfull.

I think its not necessary, a blog is enough if you want some exposure IMO. Ive watched plenty of people for years do it this way and follow them through their blogs. Good thing about blogs is you can track how many people visit, where from, how often, etc lots of tools. People can also share your stuff to their social media through your blog - easy to setup too. I like the simple philosophy, but call me crazy in this day and age...

Hi Strat,

for the amount of time I've seen people wasting in FB, I wouldn't step in, at all. Of course I'm from and ancient generation... yours!

Anyway, should you enter the mouth of the social media beast please share your thoughts (here).

If you want to automate stuff, have a look at IFTTT. A really simple service that lets you set up triggers from various sources. For example, everytime you post a photo on Instagram with a specific hashtag, IFTTT posts it on Facebook and your Wordpress site aswell.

Free and nice. Not 100% reliable though. Sometimes your channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc) gets out of sync and you have to re-enable them again. But you get an email about it, so you rarely miss anything.
