Smoothing issue
show user profile  invaderZim
Hi everyone, just joined this forum in need of help!

Right, what ive done is ive made my character, rigged and animated it. i then afterwards made my normal, texture and specular map. I saved this all onto a earlier model that i hadnt rigged.

Now my problem is that the unrigged model is all smoothed useing smoothing groups, it renders fine and im happy with it, but when i apply my material to the rigged characters, the smoothing groups all seem to go out the window, they are still applied when i go into check them, but they are not working during render or when im just working in the 3d view.

I really dont understand why all the smoothing looks as it has gone, and its really really annoything!

Can any one please tell me how fix this problem as i dont think i can stand re-rigging my man! (hes complicated) lol.

Many thanks

the normal map will most likely have been taken from a high poly to a low poly with just one smoothing group- masking the groups when it's applied
redo the normal map with the correct smoothing groups and it should look as you want it too
although without pictures i'm just guessing here
